The U.S. Department of Labor said in its CPI report that falling egg prices in April helped lower food prices. U.S. egg prices fell by 12.7% month-on-month in April, causing the meat, poultry, fish and egg index to fall by 1.6%, which in turn reduced overall food costs by 0.1% in April. Food costs rose 0.4% in March.16:26
