On Monday, October 12, preliminary investigations showed that U.S. crude oil inventories were expected to rise last week, while product inventories might decline. Analysts' average estimate was that U.S. crude oil inventories increased by approximately 1.9 million barrels in the week ended October 9. Gasoline inventories decreased by about 800,000 barrels last week, and distillate inventories, including diesel and heating oil, were expected to decline by 2 million barrels.
