Foreign media reported on March 3: Satellite monitoring data showed that global copper smelting activity declined in February 2023, but the smelting activity of China, the largest metal producer, continued to rise. The decline in smelting activity in February was concentrated in Africa, and three of the seven local smelters had no signs of activity in recent months.
The global copper dispersion index used to measure smelter activity was 49.5, lower than 50.1 in January - the highest since January 2022. When the dispersion index is at 50, it indicates that the smelter activity is at the average level in the past 12 months. Africa's dispersion index in February was 41.6%, down 10.9 points from January.
