According to data from the Pilbara Port Authority, the total iron ore exports from Port Hedland in January 2020 were 40.49 million tons, a decrease of 6.88 million tons (14.5%) month-on-month and a decrease of 1.28 million tons (3%) year-on-year. The total volume of iron ore exported to mainland China reached 33.98 million tons, a decrease of 7.42 million tons (18%) month-on-month and a decrease of 1.16 million tons (3%) year-on-year. The total iron ore exports from regions other than mainland China (including Taiwan, China) amounted to 6.65 million tons, accounting for 16% of the total port exports of Hedland, an increase of 3% from the previous month.
By region, except for mainland China and Japan, iron ore exports to other regions all increased slightly from the previous month. The total amount of iron ore exported to South Korea in January reached 4.19 million tons, an increase of 480,000 tons (13%); the total amount of iron ore exported to Japan was 1.25 million tons, a decrease of 550,000 tons (31%); 520,000 tons of iron ore to Indonesia, an increase of 340,000 tons (183%); export of 460,000 tons of iron ore to Taiwan, China, an increase of 200,000 tons (74%); no iron in Port Hedland in January The ore is exported to India and Singapore.
In terms of other varieties, the total amount of manganese ore exported from Port Hedland to mainland China in January was 112,300 tons, which was basically the same as the previous month; the total copper concentrate exported to mainland China was 11,600 tons, which was a decrease of 30,000 tons.
