Price trend

According to data from SunSirs, as of December 12th, the price of bulk chloroform in Shandong Province was 2,000 RMB/ton, a decrease of 3.23% from 2,066 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month. The prices of raw materials methanol and liquid chlorine had decreased, and the cost center of chloroform had shifted downwards; In addition, the overall downstream demand was weak with only a small amount of rigid demand support, and transactions in the chloroform market ere rare, resulting in lower merchant quotes.

Recently (12.1-12.12), the prices of raw materials methanol and liquid chlorine had decreased, and the cost center of chloroform decreased. According to the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, as of December 12th, the spot price of methanol was 2,450 RMB/ton, a decrease of 2.20% from 2,505 RMB/ton atthe beginning of the month. As of December 12th, the price of liquid chlorine in Shandong region was around 200 RMB/ton, which continued to decline compared to the previous period.
In the off-season, there was only a small amount of demand for refrigerants at the terminal. As of December 12th, the delivery price of refrigerant R22 was weak and stable, with low operating costs. The support for demand for chloroform was weak. In 2023, the total production quota for R22 was reduced by 19% to 181,800 tons, and overall support for the demand for chloroform will weaken in the medium to long term.
Market outlook
The methane chloride data analyst from SunSirs believes that a small amount of rigid demand had weak support for chloroform, but cost support had weakened, and it is expected that the chloroform market will be weakly consolidated in the later stage.
