DBP prices were consolidating at high levels in December

According to the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, as of December 28th, the DBP price was 9,750 RMB/ton, an increase of 2.63% from the DBP price of 9,500 RMB/ton on December 1st. In December, the raw material n-butanol fluctuated and rose, and the price of 2-EH reached a new high. DBP costs were supported by high levels, and the operating rate of plasticizer DBP enterprises decreased at a high level. Downstream rigid demand procurement led to a high consolidation of DBP prices in December.

The prices of plasticizer products were generally rising

According to the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, the prices of plasticizers DOP and DOTP increased by 5.17% and 4.96% respectively in December. The prices of plasticizer products generally increased, which was beneficial for DBP prices. DBP prices also increased in December.

DBP raw material prices rose from a high level in December

According to the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, as of December 28th, the quotation for 2-EH was 12,925 RMB/ton, a significant increase of 12.39% compared to the quotation of 2-EH on December 1st, which was 11,500 RMB/ton. 2-EH enterprises had seen a decline in production from a high level, with prices reaching a new high for the year on December 26th. DBP cost support still existed.

According to the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, as of December 28th, the price of n-butanol was 8,966.67 RMB/ton, a sharp increase of 15.45% compared to December 1st, when the price of n-butanol was 7,766.67 RMB/ton. In December, several n-butanol enterprises experienced short stops in equipment production, resulting in a decrease in n-butanol supply and a significant increase in n-butanol prices. Downstream plasticizer manufacturers started at high levels, and support for the rise in n-butanol in December remained.

Market outlook

SunSirs’ plasticizer product data analysts believe that in December, plasticizer product prices generally increased, while plasticizer DBP prices followed suit. In terms of raw materials: In December, the price of n-butanol skyrocketed, and the price of 2-EH reached a new high, increasing the support for DBP raw material costs; DBP enterprises were operating at a high level with weak demand, resulting in strong supply and weak demand. Overall, the prices of raw materials such as n-butanol and 2-EH had significantly increased, and the cost support for plasticizers had increased. DBP supply was strong and demand was weak, and it is expected that DBP prices will consolidate at a high level in the future.
