In April, the domestic market for chloroform saw a weak consolidation. According to the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, as of April 30th, the price of bulk chloroform in Shandong Province was 2,770 RMB/ton, a decrease of 0.36% from the 2,780 RMB/ton in early April.

Analysis review

Since April, on the one hand, downstream production remained stable at a low level, and terminal procurement performance had been mediocre. On the other hand, raw material methanol experienced narrow fluctuations, liquid chlorine prices had fallen from high levels, and the cost support for chloroform had weakened, resulting in a weak consolidation of the chloroform market.

The operating rate of domestic methane chloride plants fluctuated narrowly in April, with the domestic methane chloride operating rate around 68% as of the end of April.

In April, the price of raw material methanol fluctuated narrowly, while the price of liquid chlorine fell from a high level. The cost support for chloroform weakened. According to the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, as of April 30th, the spot price of methanol was 2,655 RMB/ton, an increase of 1.24% from 2,623 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month; At the end of April, the price of liquid chlorine tank trucks in Shandong region was around 400 RMB/ton, a decrease from the high of 700 RMB/ton at the beginning of the month.

In April, the downstream refrigerant R22 started operating at a stable low level, with weak support for chloroform.

Market outlook

SunSirs’ methane chloride data analysts believe that the cost of chloroform still had support; Downstream refrigerant production remained at a low level, with limited support for the demand for chloroform. Overall, the trend of chloroform is mainly consolidated weakly in the short term.
