On May 6th, the China Paper Association released the "2023 Annual Report of China's Paper Industry". According to survey data from the China Paper Association, there were approximately 2500 paper and paperboard production enterprises in China in 2023, with a national paper and paperboard production volume of 129.65 million tons, an increase of 4.35% compared to the previous year. The consumption was 131.65 million tons, an increase of 6.14% compared to the previous year, with a per capita annual consumption of 93.37 kilograms (1.41 billion people). From 2014 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of paper and cardboard production was 2.40%, and the average annual growth rate of consumption was 3.02%.

The report also released the top 30 key papermaking enterprises ranked by production, with Jiulong, Sun, and Liwen among the top three. Compared to the list for 2022, the top 30 companies this year are still all old faces from last year, and only a few companies have changed their ranking order. 22 companies achieved year-on-year growth in production in 2022. The total output of 30 enterprises reached 92.1903 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 8%, which is higher than the growth rate of the national total output (4.35%). The output accounts for 71.1% of the national total output, reflecting the leading role of leading enterprises in the entire industry.
