SunSirs: What is the Trend of American Recycled Pulp Export?
May 16 2024 14:33:26SunSirs(Selena)

At the beginning of the introduction of China's waste prohibition policy, the export of recycled pulp from the United States to China once showed a rapid growth trend. The export volume of recycled pulp surged from 48,000 short tons in 2018 to 295,000 short tons in 2019, with a year-on-year increase of more than 500%.

However, in 2023, this upward trend stopped abruptly, and the export volume of recycled pulp fell by 60%, only 211,000 short tons. By the end of 2023, pulp export volume had fallen to 8,000 short tons in November and 4,000 short tons in December, far lower than 33,000 short tons and 38,000 short tons in November and December 2022.

In 2024, the downturn continued, and the average monthly export volume was about 4,000 short tons. Recently, the price of recycled pulp shipped to China has hovered between us $300 and US $325 per ton, which insiders say is very low.
