SunSirs: The Chloroform Market Was Narrowly Consolidating

Recently (5.13-5.22), the chloroform market in Shandong Province had seen a narrow consolidation. According to the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, as of May 22, the price of bulk chloroform in Shandong Province was 2,770 RMB/ton, an increase of 0.73% from 2,750 RMB/ton on May 13. The price of raw material methanol had significantly increased, while the price of liquid chlorine had slightly decreased, and the cost of chloroform continued to support. Downstream production remained low, while terminal procurement performance was mediocre; The market for chloroform had seen a narrow consolidation.

Analysis review

Recently (from May 13th to May 22nd), some equipment loads had increased, and the overall operating rate of methane chloride in China had  slightly increased to around 73%.

Recently (5.13-5.22), methanol prices had significantly increased, while liquid chlorine prices have slightly decreased, and the cost of chloroform continued to support. According to the commodity market analysis system of SunSirs, as of May 22, the spot price of methanol was 2,900 RMB/ton, an increase of 7.41% from 2,700 RMB/ton on May 13. As of May 22nd, the acceptance price of liquid chlorine in tank trucks in Shandong region was around 300 RMB/ton, which was lower than the 500 RMB/ton in early May.

Recently (5.13-5.22), downstream refrigerant R22 prices had risen and operating rates had remained low, providing weak support for the demand for chloroform.

Market outlook

SunSirs’ methane chloride data analyst believes that the cost of chloroform continued to support; The downstream refrigerant industry was operating at a low level, with limited support for the demand for chloroform. As the downstream peak season gradually ends, it is expected that the chloroform market will be mainly weakly consolidating in the later stage.
