SunSirs: This Week, the Prices of Flake Caustic Soda Had Been Consolidating (May20-24)

Price trend

According to the Commodity Analysis System of SunSirs, the price of flake caustic soda had been consolidating this week, with an average market price of 3,350 RMB/ton from the beginning of the week to the weekend, a decrease of 2.43% compared to the same period last year.

On May 23rd, the chlor alkali index was 1,007 points, unchanged from the previous day, a decrease of 52.68% from the highest point in the cycle of 2,128 points (2021-10-24), and an increase of 41.43% from the lowest point of 712 points on January 5th, 2016. (Note: The cycle refers to 2011-12-01 present)

Upstream caustic soda

According to the Commodity Analysis System of SunSirs, the price of caustic soda had slightly increased this week. At the beginning of the week, the average market price was around 790 RMB/ton, while on the weekend, the average market price was 792 RMB/ton, with a price increase of 0.25% and a decrease of 11.41% compared to the same period last year. The price of caustic soda in Hubei region was temporarily stable, with a mainstream market price of around 900-960 RMB/ton for 32% ion exchange membrane caustic soda. The price of caustic soda in Shandong region was consolidating, with a mainstream market price of around 710-820 RMB/ton for 32% ion exchange membrane caustic soda.

Market outlook

SunSirs’ analysts believe that this week, the prices of flake caustic soda had stabilized, and traders were actively shipping. However, downstream alumina mostly purchased according to demand, and supply and demand gamed. Overall, the price of caustic soda may maintain a consolidation trend in the short term, depending on downstream market demand.
