SunSirs: Forsythia Market is Sluggish and Declining in China
June 06 2024 14:57:14SunSirs(Selena)

On May 30th, the Chinese herbal medicine index was 2107 points, unchanged from yesterday, a decrease of 24.70% from the highest point in the cycle of 2798 points (2023-08-10), and an increase of 116.10% from the lowest point of 975 points on November 25th, 2019. (Note: The cycle refers to June 30, 2019 to present)

According to the price monitoring of the SunSirs, in mid May 2024, there were 0 products that rose, 7 products that fell, and 1 product that rose or fell to 0 on the price list of the herbal medicine industry. The main commodities falling are: Forsythia (-14.13%) and Honeysuckle (-3.70%).

According to the monitoring of the commodity market analysis system of the SunSirs, Forsythia suspensa will start producing new products next month. Due to the fact that many holders are in a loss making state and have a reluctance to sell, its movement is still slow. Currently, the qualified prices for Qingshui boiled volatile oil in the market are around 100-105 RMB/kg, Huangtong 100 RMB/kg, and Shanless volatile oil qualified prices are around 120 RMB/kg; The asking price for unified goods varies from 80 to 85 RMB/kg.

As a popular medicinal herb variety during the anti epidemic period, the demand for Forsythia suspensa once skyrocketed, and due to consecutive years of reduced production, its market price also showed a soaring trend in the previous few years. This has led to a general reluctance among holding merchants in the market to sell. However, as the epidemic gradually eased, the market situation of Forsythia suspensa also began to gradually decline. The market situation of Forsythia suspensa is showing a relatively weak state, with trading activity still low and prices continuing to decline.

Forsythia is still one month away from new production, and the weather during its flowering period is normal this year. It is expected that the production of Forsythia will gradually return to normal levels this year. Due to the lack of extreme weather stimulation, the heat of the Forsythia suspensa trading market is also continuing to cool, coupled with weakened demand from pharmaceutical factories. As prices continue to decline, there are more merchants seeking goods. However, due to the lower prices, holders are more hesitant to sell. SunSirs analysis suggests that the Forsythia suspensa market may remain weak in the short term, and the specific situation depends on the subsequent weather conditions.
