SunSirs: The Story Behind the Slight Decrease in Production of European Copper Giants
August 07 2024 14:12:13SunSirs(John)

Aurubis, The largest copper products company in Europe reported a slight decrease of 0.4% in total copper production to 838,000 tons in the first seven months of this year. This is mainly attributed to the decrease in production in the recycling department, especially the 6% annual production reduction caused by maintenance at the Lunen plant in Germany. Although the recycling department showed a 4% increase in production after the renovation of the oil tank area at the Lunen factory in Germany in the second quarter, the overall recycling copper production still fell by 2 percentage points to 383,000 tons. At the same time, the company's three waste recycling factories producing cathode copper in Belgium and Germany maintained stable output.

In the first six months of this fiscal year, the steady performance of the smelting department was reflected in its total output of 455,000 tons of copper, a slight increase of 1% compared to last year. This growth is mainly due to the contributions of Hamburg, Germany and Pirdop, Bulgaria, which produced 284,000 tons and 171,000 tons of copper respectively.

The output of concentrate in primary smelters increased by 2% year-on-year, with a total volume of 1.74 million tons. This growth is mainly due to a 15% increase in production at the Pirdop factory, despite a 12% decrease in production at the Hamburg factory.
