SunSirs: South Africa's Mining Output: Chromium and Manganese Slowed Down, Copper Rebounded

In June 2024, South Africa's mining output decreased by 3.5% from the same period last year. Specifically, the growth of chromium ore and manganese ore production slowed down, with the former falling from 20.7% to 13.3% and the latter from 12.4% to 5.2%. Copper production rebounded strongly, jumping from a decline of 12.1% in the same period last year to 35.2%. According to seasonally adjusted data, mining output fell slightly by 1.6% in June from the previous month, and increased slightly by 0.1% in the previous month. Seasonally adjusted total mining output also fell in the three months to June, down 0.9%.
