Price trend

According to data from SunSirs, the price of seamless tubes slightly decreased in August. At the beginning of the month, the price of 108 * 4.5 seamless tubes was 4,397.5 RMB/ton, which dropped to 4,207.5 RMB/ton at the end of the month, a decrease of 4.32% and a year-on-year decrease of 11.84%.

Analysis review

In terms of raw materials: In August, the price of tube blanks fluctuated and fell, with an average price of 3,230-3,700 RMB/ton, a decrease of 30-200 RMB/ton from the beginning of the month. Since the beginning of August, the price of tube blanks had been weakly declining, and towards the end of the month, the price of tube blanks had stopped falling and risen.

In terms of demand: rainstorm and waterlogging in many places in the north, and high temperature and heat in the south, downstream demand was affected to some extent, and the actual market transactions were relatively ordinary.

In terms of exports: According to data from the General Administration of Customs, China's seamless tube exports in July were 413,100 tons, a month on month decrease of 20.34% and a year-on-year decrease of 7.91%; From January to July, China's cumulative export of seamless tubes was 3.0967 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 10.14%. In July, China imported 10,300 tons of seamless steel tubes, a month on month increase of 32.05% and a year-on-year increase of 4.04%; From January to July, China imported a total of 68,000 tons of seamless tubes, a year-on-year increase of 8.6%.

Market outlook

In summary, August is still the traditional off-season, with weak demand and weak prices. At the end of the month, due to the strong volatility of the ferrous futures market, the overall sentiment slightly improved, but the actual situation was not overly optimistic. Terminal demand remained relatively weak, and actual transactions were mainly based on low-priced resources. In September, it is rumored that the peak season is approaching, and demand may improve to some extent. It is expected that seamless tube prices will remain stable with a stronger trend in September.
