According to the data monitoring of SunSirs, the overall price of waste paper market showed a steady upward trend last week. On January 15, the average purchase price of waste yellow paperboard was 2,377.14 RMB/ ton, which was 62.85 RMB/ ton higher than that at the beginning of the week (the average purchase price of waste paper on January 10 was 2,314.29 RMB/ ton), an increase of 2.72%. With the rise of waste paper price, the price of corrugated paper also rose. On January 15, the average ex-factory price of 140g corrugated base paper was 3435 RMB/ ton, which was 25 RMB/ ton higher than that of the beginning of the week (on January 10, the average ex-factory price of 140g corrugated base paper was 3,410 RMB/ ton), a decrease of 0.73%.
Through observing the market changes, the price of domestic waste yellow paperboard showed a rising trend last week. Most of the reasons for this price rise were due to the recent recovery of the epidemic situation in parts of northern China. As a result, the recycling and transportation of wastepaper in these areas were subject to strong restrictions. As a result, many paper enterprises significantly reduced the amount of arrival, resulting in a partial shortage of supply. Therefore, local paper mills increased the purchase price of waste paper to increase the amount of arrival of waste paper. With the arrival of the Spring Festival, paper mills also have to reserve part of the inventory in advance for a rainy day.
In terms of the price of corrugated base paper, with the rising price of wastepaper, the price of corrugated base paper was also rising. With the downstream Spring Festival orders gradually released under the support of the paper factory delivery improved. In the middle of January, the price of base paper continued to set off a new wave of rising tide. Large paper mills led by Jiulong and Shanying took part in it one after another. In addition, with the official implementation of the "Ban on Waste" order in 2021, rising costs and limited raw materials are driving up the market.
SunSirs paper analysts believe that under the influence of the two major policies of "Ban on Waste" and "Ban on Plastic", there has been a wave of rising prices from waste paper and base paper to cardboard and cartons. In addition, due to the recent epidemic in northern China, the demand for waste paper began to rise. With the coming of the Spring Festival, the demand of downstream packaging paper mills rise, which leads to the rise of base paper prices. It is expected that the prices of China wastepaper and base paper will be in a positive trend in the short term.
