SunSirs: After the Holiday, Dichloromethane Rose by More Than 20%, Which Set a New High Record Since 2019
May 20 2021 13:59:39SunSirs(John)

Price trend

According to the data monitoring of SunSirs, the price of dichloromethane rose rapidly after May Day. As of May 19, the average price in Shandong was 4,263 RMB/ton, an increase of 20.43% from 3,540 RMB/ton on May 6. The price set a new high record since 2019.

Analysis review

After the holiday, the overall operating rate of the domestic methane chloride plant was close to 80%, and the supply pressure was not large, which had certain support for dichloromethane. According to SunSirs, the Jinling Dongying plant was operating at full capacity after the overhaul, Dongyue Chemical’s methane chloride plant was started by 50% to 60%, Jinmao Chemical’s methane chloride plant was shutting down, and Luxi Chemical was started near 90%, Jiangsu Liwen , Jiangxi Liwen started construction at full capacity, Meilan Juhua started near 70%.

On the one hand, domestic manufacturers have low inventories and tight supply, and factories have continued to increase prices. Currently, the quotations of mainstream dichloromethane factories in Shandong are raised by about 570 RMB/ton. On the other hand, downstream films, thinners, foaming agents, etc. still have a certain rigid demand after the festival, which also supports dichloromethane.

Although the price of liquid chlorine is at a low level, the price of methanol is rising, and the cost is still supportive in the face of the dichloromethane market. According to SunSirs, as of May 19, the price of methanol was 2,680 RMB/ton, an overall increase of 6.06% after the holiday; as of May 19, the mainstream ex-factory price of raw material liquid chlorine in Shandong was about 1,200 RMB/ton.

Market outlook

Methane chloride data analysts of SunSirs believe that as the price of raw materials has risen sharply recently, resistance to high prices has increased, and stocks have decreased. Dichloromethanee prices are expected to remain at a high stalemate in the short term.
