SunSirs: High Inventory, White Granulated Sugar Prices Decline in China

According to the monitoring of SunSirs, the average price of the first grade white granulated sugar was 5,762 RMB/ton at the beginning of last week, and 5,756 RMB/ton at the weekend. The price fell by 0.10% and rose by 1.04% compared with the same period last year.

According to the data released by China White granulated sugar Association, the production of national sugar industry enterprises in the 2021/2022 sugar production period has been completely completed. A total of 9.56 million tons of sugar were produced nationwide during the sugar production period. At the end of August, 7.88 million tons of sugar were sold nationwide, with a cumulative sugar sales rate of 82.5%; The average cumulative sales price of finished white granulated sugar of national sugar industry enterprises is 5,778 RMB/ton, and the average sales price of finished white granulated sugar in August is 5,747 RMB/ton.

According to the data released by the General Administration of Customs, China imported 280,000 tons of sugar in July, an increase of 140,000 tons month on month and a decrease of 150,000 tons year on year. From January to July 2022, China imported 2.04 million tons of sugar, a year-on-year decrease of 420,000 tons. By the end of July, China had imported 3.88 million tons of sugar in the 21/22 pressing season, a year-on-year decrease of 1.08 million tons.

Domestic white granulated sugar consumption is weak, and it is currently in a downward trend, with no positive support for the time being. It is expected that white granulated sugar prices will tend to be volatile and weak in China.
