SunSirs: Continuous Decline of China Wastepaper and Corrugated Paper, with Short-term Fluctuation and Consolidation

July 18 2023 09:40:32     SunSirs (Selena)

According to the monitoring of the Commodity Market Analysis System of SunSirs, there was a significant decrease in wastepaper in Zhejiang last week. On July 14th, the average purchase price of A-grade waste yellow cardboard in Zhejiang Province was 1,536 RMB/ton, a decrease of 2.66% compared to the average price of 1,578 RMB/ton on July 9th. The price of corrugated paper fluctuated and declined. On July 14th, the average ex factory price of 140g corrugated base paper was 2,720 RMB/ton, a decrease of 0.73% compared to the average price of 2,740 RMB/ton on July 9th.

By observing market changes, it can be seen that the domestic wastepaper market continued to decline last week, and the decline has increased. Recently, the overall trend of wastepaper prices has been weak, and the market trading atmosphere is insufficient. Even though most paper companies have gradually adjusted their subsidy policies, terminal consumption remains sluggish. In addition, there is currently an oversupply in the waste market, especially in the wastepaper market, which has led to fierce competition and a continuous decline in prices.

The price of corrugated base paper has remained downward this week, and the market's downward trend continues. With the significant decrease in raw material wastepaper prices, the cost of corrugated paper has decreased. In addition, the supply side of corrugated paper is still being released, and under the expectation of overcapacity, the pessimistic expectation of the industrial chain is spreading, causing the price of corrugated paper to fluctuate and decline. The sustained weak demand intensity in the downstream market is also the main factor contributing to the price decline.

SunSirs paper analysts believe that the current market for wastepaper and corrugated paper is weak due to insufficient demand, leading to a downward trend in prices. However, industry personnel are currently mainly wait-and-see, and procurement is relatively cautious. It is expected that the prices of wastepaper and corrugated paper will remain volatile in the short term.
