The rising prices of isooctanol and phthalic anhydride, key raw materials, led to increased production costs for DOP. This increase in costs, coupled with sufficient supply, resulted in a fluctuating upward trend in the price of the plasticizer.

In January, the operating load of DOP manufacturers decreased slightly, with the operating rate falling to 63%. DOP production decreased, leading to a decrease in DOP supply, and upward price pressure for DOP remains.
The price of the raw material, isooctanol, fluctuated and trended upwards
According to the business data analysis system of SunSirs, as of January 16th, the price of isooctanol was 7,033.33 RMB/ton, a fluctuating increase of 1.69% compared to the price of 6,916.67 RMB/ton on January 1st. Isooctanol manufacturers had completed equipment maintenance, and the operating rate of isooctanol plants had increased, reaching 95% capacity utilization, resulting in sufficient supply of isooctanol. The significant increase in propylene prices provided stronger cost support for isooctanol. The fluctuating increase in isooctanol prices had led to increased costs for plasticizers, further boosting the upward momentum of DOP prices.
The phthalic anhydride market experienced volatile upward price movements in January
According to SunSirs' commodity price analysis system, as of January 16th, the price of OX method phthalic anhydride was 6,266.67 RMB/ton, a significant increase from the price of 5,966.67 RMB/ton on January 1st, representing a 5.03% increase. Starting in late December, phthalic anhydride prices stopped falling and rebounded, and this upward trend continued in January. The significant increase in phthalic anhydride prices in January led to higher DOP costs, providing greater support for the increase in plasticizer prices.
Market outlook
According to SunSirs' plasticizer product data analyst, in terms of costs, the price of isooctanol fluctuated upwards, and the price of phthalic anhydride rose sharply, providing strong support for the increase in DOP plasticizer costs. In terms of supply, the operating rate of plasticizer enterprises remained weak but stable, resulting in stable plasticizer production and sufficient supply.
